Statewide System of Support (SSoS)
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) provides technical assistance to Illinois schools and districts in academic status through 10 Statewide System of Support sites. The I-KAN Regional Office of Education coordinates assistance to East Central Illinois in collaboration with five other Regional Offices of Education. (see map.)
SSoS core principles are that student, school and district performance can improve with a systematic and sustainable approach, and that all improvement is local. SSoS provided assistance for school improvement reflects research-based best practices in the areas of 1) data analysis and Rising Star plan development; 2) standards-aligned curriculum, instruction, and classroom assessment; 3) teacher and administrator enhancement; and 4) student, family, and community support services.
SSoS is committed to solidifying strong educational practices at all schools. Priority is given to Title I districts in Corrective Action and schools in restructuring corrective action. SSoS Coaches support the development, implementation and monitoring of Rising Star Success Indicators in assigned districts and schools. Established in 2003 by ISBE and formerly known as the Regional System of Support Providers (RESPRO), the program is federally funded.
