Class Action for High School Students
Class Action is the high-school component to Project Northland's alcohol prevention program for junior high school students and looks at the real-world social and legal consequences involving teens and alcohol.
Students are divided into legal teams to prepare and present hypothetical civil cases in which someone has been harmed as a result of underage drinking. In the process, students learn how to offer evidence and expert testimony, what legal standards they must prove to prevail and how to respond to the opposing counsel's arguments.
Additional Activities
Teen Action Group (TAG):
All high schools in Kankakee and Iroquois counties are invited to form a Teen Action Group within their schools. TAG is open to all 9th – 12th grade students (ages 13 to 19) and the groups often work in conjunction with an existing school club or organization.
TAG members help create awareness about the dangers of underage drinking and promote a no-use message by sponsoring alcohol-free events like soc hops, open gym nights and other events. They also participate in a variety of community service projects, participate at the annual Community Forum on Substance Abuse and attend the Illinois Teen Institute when funding is available.
